| It had to happen: In our 12th season as a League, we focus on a goalie who scored the only goal for his team but not as a skater but as a goalie. There have been 9 goaltenders in the NHL to score a goal: Ron Hextall of the Flyers (2 goals), Billy Smith of the Islanders, Damian Rhodes of the Senators, Jose Theodore of the Canadiens, Martin Brodeur of the Devils (2 goals), Evgeni Nabokov of the Sharks, Chris Osgood of the Red Wings, Mika Noronen of the Sabres, and Chris Mason of the Predators. None of these netminders contributed the only goal for his team's offense. On Saturday, October 10th, we witnessed the first time a goalie was credited for a goal in the League and the only goal for his team. Cory Lignelli of the Bay State Buccaneers cleared the puck from the zone down to the other end. The puck was touched by a Griffin player and inadvertently popped into the Griffin goal. The game ended in a tie, 1-1, with the goalie scoring the only goal. Congratulations, Cory Lignelli, for making League history.
