It is rare that anyone can leave me speechless. However, yet again, Drs. George Melnik and Val Lawrence of San Antonio, Texas, have left me speechless with their recent generous donation of $750 toward the scholarship fund. Through their actions, Drs. Melnik and Lawrence have funded 1 and ½ seniors for their costs at universities and colleges, and a total of $5,250 over the last 7 years for 11 seniors. Drs. Melnik and Lawrence give their hard-earned funds to the League not for recognition but because they believe that the League is doing the right thing in supporting education through hockey. Have you ever wondered why professional hockey players never get into the same social problems as those participating in the NBA, NFL, and baseball? It is because we have more intelligent, responsible players and our League is no different. Drs. Melnik and Lawrence recognize the potential of these players and willingly support them through their wallet. Let’s all join in thanking Drs. Lawrence and Melnik in their monetary generosity and commitment to the development of players within the League.
